Christchurch schools win table tennis
Christchurch Boys’ High School and Breens Intermediate were the winning teams in the South Island secondary school and intermediate table tennis championships at the Selwyn Street hall yesterday. In the secondary school final, the strong C.B.H.S. team beat Cashmere High School, 3-1, while Breens won the intermediate section final against Merrin school, 3-1.
Earlier Breens had a close battle with Christchurch South in one, semi-final, before winning, 3-2. On three occasions, the deciding game was won, 21-19.
The winning C.B.H.S. team was Simeon Cairns, Lyndon White and Paul Michael and the successful Breens side was Grant McCarroll, Ross Humphrey and Steven Lang. There were 16 entries in each section.
Results.— Secondary school semi-finals: C.B.H.S. beat Burnside High School, 3-0; Cashmere High School beat Otago Bovs’ High School, 3-2. Final: C.B.H.S. beat Cashmere, 3-1. Intermediate schools semifinals: Breens beat Christchurch South, 3-2: Merrin beat Cathedral Grammar, 3-0. Final: Breens beat Merrin. 3-1.
