ford, the wholesale marketing manager for Meat Services the Canterbury distrit butor, is confident that a similar market will become established in the South Island. The rabbit will compare in size and price with chicken, according to Mr Bradford. The flavour will not be as strong as that of the wild variety. A Wellington company is, importing the Chinese rabbits., A container-load of 15,000. will arrive at Dunedin during | the week-end, will be railed j to Christchurch for cold- 1 storage, and eventual distribution throughout Canter-1
bury, the West Coast, and Nelson-Marlborough.
Why Chinese rabbits? According to Mr Bradford, Chinese rabbits are better than those offered by two other leading producers of domestically raised rabbit, Britain and Canada and cost a lot less.
Canadian rabbits cost twice as much as the Chinese variety to import, and British rabbits would retail at three times the price.
