C.P.I. installs big " plastics moulder
A new plastics injection moulding machine for Consolidated Plastics Industries, Ltd, is the largest machine of its kind in the country. The moulder, worth more than $600,000, was commissioned by C.P.1., a subsidiary of Feltex New Zealand, Ltd, for its 7-acre Ellerslie, Auckland factory, where the company has spent a further $250,000 to accommodate it.
Mr George Pearce, the managing director of Feltex, says that this new plant investment is indicative of the Feltex group’s development
of import substitution, and export business.
C.P.I. is confident of having the new moulder installed, and in production, by mid-September. Mr John Lindsay, the group manager of C.P.1., says that the new moulder, which is able to inject up to 200 ounces of material weight in one shot, offers New Zealand industry significant import savings potential. “This machine can handle manufacturing jobs for which New Zealand has not previously had facilities,” he says.
“In the past, many plastic items required by New Zealand’s manufacturing industries have had to be imported built-up, or as components ready for assembly. Their prices have had to include the high costs of freight, packing, offshore labour, and other overheads,” says Mr Lindsay.
