Mike Procter’s speed
Mike Procter, who recently scored the fastest century of the season in England, almost reduced his time to absurdity in Gloucestershire’s match with Somerset at Taunton on Monday. He made 93 in 46 minutes, reaching 50 in 25 minutes, and he hit eight sixes off the left-arm spinner Dennis
Breakwell. Six of the big hits came from successive balls in two overs. In 1968 Gary Sobers, bating for Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan, hit each ball in a six-ball over from Malcolm Nash for six. That remains the record for runs in an over in a first-class match.
