Seven-year highs in Sydney
Diamond, oil, gas and other resources shares helped the Sydney All Ordinaries, and Metals and Minerals indices reach a seven-year high yesterday. The discovery of a fourth pipe by the Mt Wynne partners revitalised interest in a number of diamond explorers. With equal shares in the project, Haoma Gold gained 8c to 63c, and North West Mining firmed 8c to 60c. A Selection Trust subsidiary, A.S. Mining Ventures, is operator, and can earn up to a 60 per cent interest in the project. Buying of Ampol Petroleum shares was stepped up, but the price remained steady at 100 c with Pioneer Concrete, and Brambles still ,the main buyers. Speculative oil stocks were actively traded with gains generally a cent or two, and some losses. Much interest centred on Santos which firmed 15c to 440 c after further large special sales. B. rose 18c to $lO.OO. C. Bank firmed 8c to 263 c in early trading on its big profit increase, but eased to close at 260 c. Other banks were firm.
