Acheron House study wanted
The Historic Places trust wants a study made of Acheron House in Marlborough to find out if it can be restored. A grant of about $500,000 from the Lottery Board of Control will finance the project. The trust would like to know if it would be practicable to stabilise or preserve the house. About $5OOO is needed to fence the property to prevent stock damage and to stabilise the building. Acheron was built on the banks of the Clarence River in the 1860 s and was used extensively during the gold rush as an accommodation house.
