Divided world
Sir, — Surely we are aware of the lack of intelligence, the lack of love, in history and today’s world. Our minds are dull, sorrow-
ful, violent and ambitious. Members of the younger generation are continuing what members of the older generation are, even though they have their rebellions. The cause is division jn the world and in ourselves. What is it that divides? Surely it is our images and identities, individually and as groups. We call ourselves a Hindu, a Communist, a Nazi, a Christian and so on. Our minds are dulled with upbringing in whatever culture. We draw on our little segment of energy from our ideals, religions, social creeds and in so doing lead lives of frustration and division. What will we do about this? Turn to "god,” drink, a close friend, a gang? — find security, identity, love, entertainment, pleasure in these. — Yours, etc., S. RITCHIE. August 21, 1979.
