Antarctic flight

Fourteen New Zealanders were flown to Antarctica yesterday by a United States Navy Hercules in the first winter flight of the season. Tire party comprised four scientists and 10 drillers. The aircraft left Christchurch as planned at 2 a.m. and returned at 9 p.m., said a Navy spokesman. The flight was made earlier than usual because of a thick-ice drilling programme due to begin next month.
