Benefit rugby league programme
AU proceeds from a varied rugby league programme at the Show Grounds on September 9 will be given to the family of Greg Mooney, the young West Coast representative who suffered severe injuries in a match at Greymouth. Mooney, aged 23, suffered serious back injuries against Wellington on August 19, and is in the spinal unit at Burwood Hospital. The games on September 9 will be the preliminary final of the premier B grade, the grand final of
the 17-years championship, and, as the main feature, the South Island 19years side’s meeting with the Penrith (Sydney) Colts. A meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League board of control last evening was told that the Agricultural and Pastoral Association has waived its rent charge for the day, and all staff would work gratis. The admission price will be either $l, or any donation in excess of that amount.
