Bus drivers to stop
Christchurch bus services will come to a halt at 10 a.m. on Thursday when Transport Board drivers hold a stop-work meeting. Buses will start to go out of service at 9 a.m., and will have stopped completely an hour later. Radio stations will be advised as soon as the meeting ends and will broadcast the time that normal services resume.
The meeting is being called to inform members of
the Tramways’ Union about the Government’s Remuneration Bill, according to the union secretary (Mr M. D. Dawson). Although no strike ballot would be put to members by the union executive, something of the sort might come from the floor of the meeting, he said. The drivers would be asked to support the Federation of Labour in whatever action it decided to take.
