Dearer ducts likely
Air-conditioning ducts for the new Canterbury Public Library might be less attractive and more expensive than envisaged because an import licence for special-width sheet metal has been refused. A progress report on the construction of the new building was received by the Christchurch City Council’s cultural committee yesterday. Later the committee decided; to offer its support to any application to have the import licence decision reversed.
In their report, the archi- : tects, Warren and Mahoney, • said that the wide sheets i were needed to avoid any : joins in the ducts being visi ible and so give the ducts, . which would be exposed, a ; “special quality in their , appearance.” ; If narrower metal sheets . had to be used, it would inI crease the work in making the ducts and mean ad- . ditional cost and possibly extra time.
