PA Wellington 11 Australian liquified petroleum “as supplies were available to South Island consumers at a lower price than they could land Kapuni L.P.G. “A case could be made” for granting an import licence for the fuel, the Minister of Energy, (Mr Birch) told Parliament yesterday. He had been asked what the estimated landed cost of L.P.G. from Australia to the South Island was and how it compared with the Kapuni price paid by South Island consumers. Mr Birch said the landed price of Australian L.P.G. was not known, nor did he know w’hether any of the Australian gas could be made available to New Zealand. Australia produced 1.6 million tonnes of L.P.G. a year. A quarter of this was used in Australia and the remainder was exported, mainly to Japan.
