Canty netball team still unbeaten

Special correspondent At the end of the second day’s play in the New Zealand netball tournament at New Plymouth, Canterbury, Rotorua, Auckland, and North Shore remained the only unbeaten teams in first grade. Wellington suffered two defeats at the hands of South Canterbury and Rotorua. The fifth seed, Waikato, though winning its games against Otago and Manawatu, had lost to Rotorua on the opening day. Fine, sunny weather allowed fast-moving netball, and these conditions obviously suited Auckland, which had a much better day, winning comfortably

against Hutt Valley and South Canterbury. Canterbury was also prominent. Against Manawatu it led throughout. Adrianne Prattley’s feint shot at goal, followed by a quick flick pass into Ann Davidson under the posts, had Manawatu’s defence bewildered.

The two Canterbury shooters have a fine understanding in the goal circle, the defence trio of Pauline Devine, Wai Taumaunu, and Cie Stenstrom. is equally strong. Taumaunu, in particular, was in fine form. Her long reach deflected the ball out of court and with interceptions abounding she was i a tower of strength.

Canterbury won easily, 4419.
