Forest reserves
Sir, — We see two different approaches in planning for the Lewis Pass region. The Lands and Survey Department puts forward an informative report outlining its intentions and asks for public submissions. In contrast, the Forest Service presents a fait accompli in the form of a forest park, without asking the opinion of interested people. Driven by their antagonism towards the Lands Department and with a possessive attitude to land under their control, the Forest Service seems more intent on furthering its own interests than in wise land use. — Yours, etc., S. R. JUNE. Nelson. August 18, 1979.
