Muzorewa sued
NZPA-Reuter Salisbury The commander of Zimbabwe Rhodesia’s crack Selous Scouts battalion (Lieutenant-Colonel Ron Reid-Daly) is suing the Prime Minister (Bishop Abel Muzorewa) and the former Army commander over the alleged bugging of his telephone, the colonel’s lawyer has said. The laywer, Robin Hartley, said that documents had been lodged with the High Court on Friday claiming damages of $53,000 from eight members or former members of the army for in-
vasion of Colonel ReidDaly’s privacy. The Prime Minister is being sued “jointly and severally” with the eight in his official capacity as Minister of Defence and Combined Operations. The main defendant is Lieutenant-General John Hickman,. the former army commander who was dismissed on March 6. No reason for the dismissal was published, but informed sources cited disciplinary reasons.
Colonel Reid-Daly was court martialled and given a reprimand in June on an insubordination charge.
