Fire claims increase
PA Wellington Fire insurance companies paid out $62.6 million during 1977-78, according to the Govem-i ment Statistician. The record amount is a 29 per cent increase on the previous year. The average claim rose from $376 to $587. Reasons for the rise include higher values of assets at risk, and increasing costs of claims in both domestic and commercial premises, according to the Insurance Council.
