Linwood loses Truscott for one match
Linwood will be without the services of its hooker and captain, Pau’ Truscott, when it meets Papanui in the final round of the Canterbury rugby league premiership on Sunday. Truscott was last evening suspended for one match by the league’s board of control. He was sent from the field by the referee (Mr T. Drake) during last Saturday’s match with Sydenham and was charged with punching. However, the suspension will not affect Truscott’s eligibility to represent Canterbury against Welling-, ■ton at Wellington next. Saturday. His sentence applies only for club football, and he will be back in the Linwood side to oppose MaristWestern Suburbs in the minor semi-final of the championship play-offs on September 2. One change will be needed'
in the Canterbury team. The Addington and former Auckland forward, Mark Lowe, has had his debut for his adopted province delayed because of injury No replacement has yet been named.
The board decided that the championship preliminary final will be held on Saturday, September 8, to avoid having premier football every Sunday until the grand final on September 16. The Gore Cup (bottom six) play-offs will be conducted on a round-robin basis — two sections of three — on September 2, 5 and 8, with the final as the curtain-raiser to the top four grand final. The Penrith (Sydney) under-19 squad will have two fixtures in Christchurch during its tour of this country, against Canterbury on September 7 and South Is‘land on September 9.
