Three yachts still missing
NZPA London Concern for the safety of three French yachts believed to have been in the area of the storm that turned the Fastnet race into a disaster was increasing yesterday. The trip from France to southern Ireland has become increasingly popular among French yachtsmen, arid when last Tuesday’s storm struck at least 20 French yachts were in the area.
Since the rescue activities Coastguards in Britain. France, and Ireland
have tried to establish the whereabouts of unaccounted yachts. Fears are growing for the three remaining yachts to be accounted for, and a Coastguard spokesman at Land’s End said: “they may all still be all right, but it is rather surprising that no trace whatsoever has been founu of any one of these three so far.” All the other yachts for which there had been some concern have by now either returned to France or been reported at ports in Britain or Ireland.
