Dairy pay dispute
PA Hamilton Dairy workers round New Zealand will meet this week after a breakdown in their award talks. The conciliation conference broke down last week after the employers would not lift their wage offer above 8 per cent. The Dairy Workers’ Union’s national secretary (Mr R. McMillan) said yesterday that a complex formula for pay rates had been agreed to with the employers so that wages in th? industry would be more standardised but the talks had broken down on setting the level of remuneration.
The union seeks a 14 per cent wage rise. Mr McMillan said the claim would keep dairy woriers in line with the General Drivers’ Award at present in dispute and the Meta! Trades Award due to be negotiated from this
