Girls in dormitory at boys’ school

Sir,—Erica Jordan (August 20) says, “Only within marriage is there the time and freedom to make the (sexual) experience pleasurable for both partners, as each accepts the responsibility to make it enjoyable for their mate. Only within marriage is there provision for the care and support of the mother as she carries and bears and nurses their child.” Not only do many (if not! most) marriages fall far short of these claims, but human and animal life developed successfully long before religions presumed to confer sanctity on their various forms of marriage. Erica Jordan concludes with some of the right questions, but let us have real answers,, not just religious reflexes. How can sexual respect and understanding survive sexual segregation or boarding school anyway? What right has one generation to judge another?—Yours, etc., ALAN WILKINSON. August 19, 1979.
