‘PA * Wellington The number of people on Government-sponsored special work increased by 134 to 25,252 in the two weeks to July 27, according to figures released yesterday by the Minister of Labour (Mr Bolger). At the same date 26,131 persons were registered as unemployed. In the public sector the number employed under the temporary-employment programme increased by 209 to 17,586. The number of people employed by Government departments was 8577 (up 155), by local authorities 7238 (up 325), and by education authorities and hospital boards 1771 (down 271). A total of 7666 persons was also being employed with the support provided by the Government to pri-vate-sector employers. This was a reduction of 75 since July 13.
