Grant to trust rises
PA Wellington Almost SIM had been allocated to the Historic Places Trust this year. Money from the Government has increased by about. 12 per cent to $424,700. The Lottery Board has increased its allocation 67 per cent, from $300,000 to $500,000. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet) said a large part of the trust’s money would be spent on three main projects—the restoration of Antrim House in Wellington; of Highwic, a large Victorian house in Auckland; and Clark’s flour mill at Maheno, in North Otago. Mr Highet said he hoped to introduce.a bill later this year which would amend and consolidate the Historic Places Act, 1954. “I hope this bill will bring about much better protection for historic buildings and improve the trust’s liaison with local government in the town planning area,” Mr Highet said.
