Flooding only minor
Low-lying areas of Christchurch suffered minor flooding yesterday as heavy rain fell over the east coast of Canterbury. The Christchurch Meteorological Office recorded 19.5 mm of rain in the 12 hours to 6 p.m. The worst affected area appeared to be St Albans where residents had “some anxious moments,” the de?
puty chief engineer of the Christchurch Drainage Board (Mr H. P. Hunt) said last evening. “The recently-completed Dudley Creek diversion proved successful and residents were protected,” he said.
No reports of flooding had been received from the St Martins-Opawa area, which had been hard-hit by. heavy rainfalls in the past. The rain had eased by about 9 p.m. and any danger of serious flooding passed.
