High sales of some Australian shares
Australian share markets fell in the morning, but showed signs of recovery during yesterday afternoon. Gold stocks eased, reflecting falls in Sydney futures prices. A special sale of 1.55 M shares in Santos, at 350 c was reported. It was generally thought that the Bond Corporation was seller. Other major turnovers included 230,000 F. J. Walker shares steady at 95c.
Waltons, still subject of, takeover rumours, gained 5c to 77c. 8.H.. finished 2c down at 928 c, and CSR lost 4c to 356 c. Western Mining gained 5c to 250 c with special sales
, boosting volume to more than 600,000. Despite record international gold prices, Central Norseman finished 50c lower at 3350 c. Woodside Petroleum eased 4c to 97c, but the turnover was a high 170,000 units.
