Yaldhurst extensions

The Yaldhurst Transport Museum plans to extend its facilities to provide a new entrance, tearooms, souvenir shop, toilets, and an additional display area. Approval for the extension was granted yesterday by the Paparua County Council’s town planning hearing committee.

The museum, which is run by its owner, Mr A. T. Cooper, has been open to the public more than 10 years. The county planner (Mr K. G. Lawn) said the museum was an asset which would be enhanced by the extensions.

One objection to the extensions was received from a nearby shop-owner, who was concerned that the sale of certain goods at the proposed tearooms would effect his business.

The committee expressed some concern about the provisions for off-street parking, but after a visit to the museum they decided to grant the application, subject to certain conditions. These included provisions for a car-parking area if required in the future, and to the tearooms being available to museum visitors only.
