Fashion Heights set for another trophy?

By

BOB SCHUMACHER

Fresh from her triumph in the Robinson Rose Bowl allage stakes two weeks ago, Fashion Heights is in the right form to win another big trophy, the Merv Gibson distance feature, at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s equalisator meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Saturday afternoon.

The manner in which the Chief Zero-Diana bitch ran out a fast 540 m for her earlier win suggests that Don Robinson’s fawn longtail will find few errors with the 840 m distance on Saturday.

In previous races, Fashion Heights has been finishing on strongly and it was surprising to see her gain an early lead in the Robinson Rose Bowl event. The box-five draw will be against Fashion Heights at the start but if she can begin with the alacrity of her last start her stamina should have her to the fore at the finish.

Mystic Wave, although not sighted in her two recent starts after a short letup, is a proven stayer and

the Long Wave-Sloop bitch will be a main threat if anywhere near her best. She was a game second to the classy Sarkhan Sal when she was favourite for the New Zealand Cup invitation stakes over the same distance in April and is especially difficult to head if she can reach the lead. Reefton Rosita, third in the New Zealand Cup will be suited by the distance as will Master Brydie, which usually finishes fast but too late.

The consistent Saucy Dish, which has a sound form record over 840 m, should fare best of the rest. Both Huatahi Prince and Eileen McManus are out of form and Kimba Mint will be pushed in a useful field. Huatahi Prince was a surprise but decisive winner of the race last year but his form has tailed off. Eileen McManus, Mystic Wave, and Saucy Dish also contested the event last year and' all [finished unplaced.

The reliable Rirnu Last and the last-start winners Highsted Lass and Rockj Baron, have the most appea tn the class five race ovej 540 m.
