Journalists’ pay up 16 per cent
PA Wellington Complete settlement of the New Zealand (except Northern) Daily Journalists’ Award was achieved yesterday after a two-day conciliation before Mr L. Fortune, the Newspaper Publishers’ Association announced yesterday. The agreement provides for a 6 per cent catch-up factor to restore relativity as at July 31, plus a 9 per cent wage increase. There is, as well, an 0.5 per cent increase to enable the new award to run for 15j months from July 31 until* November 15, 1980. Under the terms of the settlement, which aggregates to 16.12 per cent, graded journalists’ wages will range from $145 to $319 a week.
