Price of plastics

A Christchurch plastics manufacturer has received many inquiries from customers concerned about price increases predicted in the

plastics industry. The general manager of P.D.L. Plastics, Ltd (Mr L. Broekmeyer) said many customers were worried about high price increases in plastics components caused by recent oil-price rises. Some points he had made in a story in “The Press” yesterday needed clarifying, Mr Broekmeyer said. I A statement that the cost

of raw materials made up 90 per cent of the company’s selling price was incorrect.

“In most cases material costs comprise about 37 per cent of the price of the finished product. In some cases the cost of the raw material is 90 per cent of the cost price we pay,” he said. P.D.L. Plastics made components for all telephones in New Zealand and 80 per cent of components for electric switches, not the telephones and switches themselves, as was stated in yesterday’s story, Mr Broekmeyer said.
