No-confidence vote

Sir, — With the confusion over the last General Election and the coming byelection in Christchurch Central it is obvious that the Government must change the present voting system. One change I strongly favour, is the allowance for voters to cast a vote of no-confidence: The voting paper would list the candidates’ names and a no-confidence vote. Then if the number of votes polled for no-confidence exceeded those of the highest polling candidate a re-election would be required for the electorate. This would then give voters who think that either the candidates and/or parties contesting the election are unfit for office, a democratic choice.—Yours, etc.,
