Inquiry sought into herbicides
PA Hamilton Support for a public inquiry into the use of the weedkiller, 2,4,5-T has been given by the Environment and Conservation Organisation. It also called fra thorough national investigation by the Health Department to determine whether damage to human health was associated to exposure to phenoxy herbicides such as 2,4.5-T 24D, and M.C.P.A. A move for a public inquiry into 2,4,5-T use was introduced by the En-
vironmental Chemicals Action Group two months ago, but the president (Ms M. Peace) wanted “widescale” support before taking action. She spoke recently to the E.C.O. conference, pointing out that her group had more than 20 written complaints from persons in many parts of New Zealand that “had not been sufficiently investigated.” E.C.O. unanimously supported a remit asking for a public inquiry and investigation.
