Codlin at centre?
The Canterbury B rugby selectors appear to be considering a similar course to that which they followed last year and have a full-back as their centre. Last winter the selectors, Messrs Neil Cornelius and Bill Hasse, played Doug Heffernan at full-back and switched Clive Currie to centre, Currie later winning All Black selection as a full-back. Yesterday the same panel named their first squad for this season, from which a team will be chosen to play North Canterbury at Rangiora on July 31. The team will be a Canterbury XV. And once again two full-backs have been named, Heffernan and the young Lincoln College player who has been displaying fine form, Brent Codlin. Furthermore there is no specialist centre. The squad contains a number of players who have had games for Canterbury A this year; two, Alan Croad and Dave White, as recently as yesterday. The squad is:— Backs: Phil Thomas (H. 5.0.8. Ross Gibson (New Brighton), Codlin (Lincoln College). Heffernan (University A), Geoff Brain /Suburbs), Gary Hooper rMarist), .siimon Brown (H. 5.0.8. John
