No dispensation for senior rugby teams

After a prolonged discussion the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union decided, at its meeting last evening, to allow' no dispensations for senior teams to play their games earlier next Saturday than indicated on the draw.

The chairman of the competitions committee. Mr W. A. Russell. said he had received three verbal requests from teams which wanted to play before their scheduled time of 2.45 p.m. A letter was also received from the jligh School Old Boys club protesting at the playing of games at the normal times next Saturday afternoon, when, presumably, the second French test in Auckland will be televised live.

I Some members thought permission siiould be given to the teams which had made the requests, providing there were grounds available at 1.15 p.m. (This, the meeting was told, was unlikely).

However, others felt changes for some would lead to confusion and that the round—the last for the C.S.B. Cup—was too Important to be messed about.

The vote to allow changes for teams which mutually agreed to earlier starts was lost on voices. Mr G. G. Don, who was unhappy with the whole discussion because the question had been decided last week (when, he said, he supported the playing or all games early), asked that his vote against the approving of the senior draw be recorded.
