Alert at airport
An emergency alert was declared at Christchurch Airport yesterday for the landing of a United States Air Force Starlifter with engine and hydraulics trouble. The aircraft, with eight persons aboard, was diverted to Christchurch while en route from Honolulu to Ohakea. The alert was called at 1.09 p.m. after the crew reported that the Starlifter had developed a fault in a hydraulic system, and that one of its starboard engines was leaking oil.
