Poll proposal
The people of China may soon have the secret ballot and a real choice of candidates in all elections, if proposals in the “People’s Daily” are put into effect. An article in the paper, the official organ of the Chinese Communist Party, suggested wide-ranging changes to China’s election laws, giving ordinary people a greater say in the management of the country. “For a long time now, our elections have been just a matter of formality;’ the daily said. “The choosing of representatives was said to be done by ‘democratic consultation,’ but was in fact done by a very small circle of people.” — Peking.
