Sprinkler burst wets factory
Water from a burst sprinkler system flowed 10cm deep past valuable electronic equipment in the factory of Printed Circuits, Ltd, in Carlyle Street, Sydenham, yesterday.
Water from a broken feed pipe flooded about 280 sq. m of the factory before the main was turned off. “It made a terrible mess, but it could have been a lot worse,” said the managing director of the company (Mr T. Astley).
He said the water had cascaded down from the ceiling of the ground-floor factory near an expensive and important piece of equipment, which had escaped damage.
Firemen were called to the factory at 2.52 p.m., and helped staff clean up for several hours.
Mr Astley said the cleaning up would continue through the night, helped by hot-air blowers.
“We hope to have things back to normal in 24 hours or so,” he said.
