Co-ordinating home design
Decorative glass panels for garage doors are a recent development by Nightingale Products, Limited, the winners of the 1972 designmark award. The Christchurch based company, which has been manufacturing garage
doors for 17 years, decided to incorporate windows in garage doors to coordinate the look of exterior home design. Mr R. Calvert, manager of Nightingale Products, Limited, said the company had found that more and more people were looking
at their garage as a part of the house design. When a garage is actually a part of the house design the addition of windows in a garage door, for attractiveness and improved lighting, was found to be particularly popular. The suggested size in textured amber glass is 122 cm x 30cm but there are numerous varieties and combinations. The designmark was awarded to Nightingale Products, Limited, for design excellence in overhead tilting doors. The door incorporates attractiveness and security with smooth operating for overhead tilting. Mr Calvert said that to the best of his knowledge the company was the only design award winner for a tilting door.. Each, individual door is tailormade to fit each individual opening. It can be manufactured from “Metrib” galvanised steel up to three metres wide, or Industrial 7 aluminium, up to six metres wide.
