The world’s refugees
Sir, — On the international page of “The Press,” July 3, there is a map purporting to show where the world’s refugees have sought asylum and where they come from. Italy is shown to be host to 10,000 refugees from the Soviet Union. The fact is that these people are Soviet Jews who emigrated to Israel and after experiencing the reality of life in their “promised land” fled to Rome. These people were emigrants from the Soviet Union; they are refugees from Israel. — Yours, etc., M. CREEL. July 5, 1979.
