Industrial problems

Sir, — New Zealanders are known as Kiwis; how apt. This little bird shies away from the light, preferring the darkness of the forest. In the present strike crisis, supporters of strike action cannot see the wood for the trees; we are like whales beaching ourselves. Who are t'he real managers of New Zealand homes — women. Who takes the brunt of strike action — women. Their mental and financial ability is stretched to stressful limits whenever the family income is affected. Women, in the main, do the shopping; it is they who are wearied in the process of obtaining essential goods in short supply. Positive action is vitally necessary. We are not independent while New Zealand is obligated to huge overseas loans. Productivity is essential to save New Zealand, and ourselves, from outside interests. I am prepared to assist, shifting freight myself. Are there any supporters, men 'or women? — Yours, etc., W. MARGARET DENNIS. July 6, 1979.
