Cricket side surprises
New Zealand’s performances in the World Cup cricket competition surprised many people in Britain said the team manager, Mr Graham Dowling in Christchurch yesterday, and the teams’ good performances were largely due to the excellent captaincy of Mark Burgess. Mr Dowling said that Burgess handled the team superbly on the field and was the equal of any of the captains in the competition.
‘‘Anyone who saw him in the field could not help but be impressed by the way he handled the bowling and the field settling. There is tremendous pressure on a captain in those matches at ail times.
“Mark did extremely well, and no doubt he received some help from the senior professionals Geoff Howarth and Glenn Turner,” Mr Dowling said.
