Fine women’s hockey win to Carlton
The only senior women's aockey game played on Saturday as a catch-up round between Carlton and Digbys. Carlton von this fast, spirited game 4-0. Other teams in the grade were affected by the absence of key players in Canterbury’s under-21 team at the national tournament in Carterton.
Carlton scored both its firsthalf goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. The opening goal came from the left-wing, Maureen Darch, who picked up a centring cross from the right wing. Jill Searle, and steered it into Digbys’ net The second was a deflected shot from the insideleft. Shirley Haig. Late in the spell. Carlton had two goals disallowed, and several firm shots went wide by narrow margins. Digbys’ for wards made some good moves down their right flank, but there was no finishing. There were many stop pages for infringements’ whici broke up forward moves Digbys could feel pleased wit! the way they kept up their spirits throughout the game, with Jan Duggan, at inside-right, being in strumental in many of her team’s attacks. The halves Robvne Elliott. Lyn Calder and Joanne Smith, had fine games. Carlton's re organised forward line looked more confident and a better combined unit, with , Dale Milne at left-half trapping and positioning herself with con sistent accuracy . Umpires: Messrs A.
