Doonican ‘loved it’
Val Doonican, the Irish balladeer, was tired but happy at the end of the huge fund-raising carnival. “I’m tired but I don’t care,” he said as Telethon went into its final hour. “I’ve really got caught up in the mood of it all and I’m having a great time. I’m loving it.” Mr Doonican did not stay for the entire 24
hours: he went back to hit hotel between 2.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. for a short rest. After that he was back into the swing of it and joined others in singing and clowning round the stage. "I think something like this brings out the best in people,” he said. "They don’t have anything like it in Britain or Europe.”
