More bulls sold

The average price paid for polled and horned Hereford bulls at the annual sale of the Genepool breeding group at Timaru this week was more than double that of last vear.

•For 35 bulls the average was $1367. The sale was held before a large bench of buyers and bidding was brisk, particularly for btjUs .with a performance tested backing. .There was a complete clearance and animals went to destinations from North Canterbury to Southland. The bulls were well grown and came forward in good order and condition.

/Three three-,\ ear-olds averaged S2lOO, with the best money being $3400 fof-one which went to H. SV Blakie and R. S. Chaffey.

Thirty-two two-year-olds averaged $1298, with the top money for this age group being $3OOO for a bull which went to W. McNab, of Owaka. The sale was conducted by Wrightson NMA, Ltd. The Te Mania stud, of Hundalee, paid the top price of $4OOO for a bull at the sixteenth annual Southland-Otago unled Angus bull fair at Clinton. The bull belonged to S. G. Cochrane of Delmont, Clfnton.

Among other purchases at the sale was one by Dalgetys, of Timaru, at $llOO from S. A. Mackay and Son, Otama, Gore. Fifty-four bulls were sold at the sale for an average of $1195, with prices ranging down to $6OO.

The sale was described as satisfactory, but lacking in buying power with 13 passings.
