Approval for house changes
Conversion of a Merivale house to professional and retail rooms was approved last evening by the City Council. The property, at No. 7 St Albans Street, is behind shops in the shopping centre and in a residential zone separated from other houses by a stormwater drain.
In 1977, a proposal to demolish the house and use the area for car-parking was approved, but the project did not eventuate.
An objection to the specified departure on traffic and planning grounds was considered, but councillors said the development would be small-scale and would not significantly affect shopping patterns in the area.
