Criticism of rebate
The Government’s justification for changing its rates rebate policy failed to say that recipients of only National Superannuation would get less relief, Cr D. F. Caygill told the City Council last evening. He said the $25 income tax rebate for homeowners was “a fat help to pensioners,” and the council should emphasise the reality of that type of policy change. “If the scheme is going to be eroded in this way, we have to question its value,” Cr Caygill said.
