Ashburton in chess
A late entry from Ashburton College has been accepted in “The Press” chess teams’ competition. Ashburton will fill the bye ; in zone one of the B grade and the team is prepared to travel to fulfil its com- , mitments. Ashburton’s entry brings the number of teams competing to 29 in the three grades. It is hoped that 1
there will be several free weeks after the preliminary round to allow Ashburton to play its first round match, and for any deferred contests. Linwood also wished to enter a second team and take the bye in the B grade. However, Ashburton’s entry arrived several hours after the competition closed and it had first option.
