Referee sequel tonight
The alleged striking of a referee (Mr T. M. Hanna) by a spectator at the end of the Hornby and High School Old Boys senior rugby match on Saturday will have its sequel at the Canterbury union’s management committee meeting this evening. The spectator alleged to have struck the referee is believed to be a Hornby supporter. During the match, Gavin Cooke, the Hornby
captain, was ordered from the field after a fight between the forwards. An emergency committee meeting of the Hornby club was held on Sunday evening and the incident discussed. A spokesman for the club said last evening, that a report would be tabled at the union’s meeting and that the person involved would attend.
