Canterbury long distance! runner. Harn. Marque: oil the St Martin's Club, ran the I longest distance for 24 hours! in Canterbury when he corn-i pleted 121.79 miles in the Operation Deep Freeze Tele- ■ thon appeal run round Christchurch Airport yester-j day. Members of Marquet’s family also set individual records when they accompanied him on his run which: raised about .$l4OO for the telethon appeal. Sponsorship for Marquet’s “Year of the Child " appeal came from the Bank ot Newi South Wales branches. Commander Ron Chrans. in charge of Operation Deep Freeze praised the organiser of the event, Mr Bob White, himself a well-performed distance runner. Michael Marquet, aged 14, set a record for a boy of his age by completing 76.12 rn’es. while running with his tatnei.
