Great Britain thrashed
NZPA Brisbane Australia easily beat a dispirited and ultimately pathetic Great Britain by 35 points to nil before a crowd of 18,000 in the first rugby league test at Lang Park, Brisbane, on Saturday evening.
So complete was Australia’s superiority that Great Britain trailed by 14 points to nil mid-way through the first half.
Australia went on to score five tries and the kicker, Mick Cronin, landed a record 10 goals from 11 attempts as Great Britain gloomily accepted defeat.
Great Britain’s coach, Eric Ashton’s hopes of pulling something out of the box after his team’s unimpressive test lead-up, was dashed as the speedy Australians cut the Great Britain defence to shreds.
