Rangiora pollution

Sir, — Through your column I would like to express my deep concern at the use of Blackett Street, Rangiora, by heavy logging trucks. These trucks and trailers with an all-up load approaching 45 tonnes enter the street at the west end and proceed the full length to go to a weigh bridge situated within 200 metres of the main street of Rangiora. The emission of foul fumes and the disturbing noise created by these units should not be allowed in a built-up residential area. The carriageway of which a portion is relatively new, is starting to break up. This should be of grave concern to all ratepayers and the borough council. If these vehicles could be weighed at

the point of departure or on arrival at their destination which is outside the borough boundaries I feel sure that all residents would be less concerned at the encroachment of this disturbing element on our environment. — Yours, etc., R. C. HORNE, Rangiora. June 13, 1979.
