Broadcasting cuts
Sir, — In view of the cuts announced today, in radio and television services, I would be very interested to know why it is necessary to have such an apparently large staff. For instance, why cannot the newscaster (TVI, in particular, as we cannot receive TV2 here) also read the weather? Is it essential to have reporters for football, racing, tennis, etc., while the newscaster apparently just sits. It does seem that, like most Government monopolies, both television and national radio are overstaffed. I would be most interested to know if they are really necessary. — Yours, etc., NORA F. GARLAND, Timaru. June 14, 1979.
